The culinary scene in Adelaide's CBD is about to get a whole lot more exciting with the arrival of Italian Street Kitchen. This new restaurant, opening its doors on June 10th, promises to bring a fresh and modern twist to Italian dining, all while celebrating the best of South Australia's local produce and wine. But what makes this venture truly intriguing is the unique blend of tradition and innovation it brings to the table, both in terms of cuisine and atmosphere.
A Natural Progression
Gareth Howard, Managing Director of Blue Coral Concepts, sees the expansion of Italian Street Kitchen into Adelaide as a natural progression. With a passion for the region's wine and seafood, Howard has been a regular visitor to South Australia since moving to Australia 15 years ago. He's witnessed the incredible growth of artisan producers and the city's appreciation for food and wine, making it the perfect location for his restaurant chain's debut.
"We’ve been waiting for the right opportunity," Howard shared. "South Australia has some of the best wine regions in the world and arguably the best seafood in the country. But what’s become even more exciting over the years is seeing the incredible growth of artisan producers creating truly world-class produce. Adelaide is a city that genuinely appreciates food and wine, so we’re excited to bring Italian Street Kitchen into such a passionate and food-driven market."
A Focus on Local Produce
The new SA spot will showcase a sharper focus on local produce, with the restaurant supporting South Australian wineries and producers. From iconic names like Yalumba, Jim Barry, and Rusden to boutique wineries like Emmalene, Tin Shed, and Main & Cherry, the wine list is designed to reflect the region's character while maintaining the brand's personality.
"We wanted the wine list to feel very connected to the region while still reflecting the personality of the brand," Howard explained. "We’ve supported South Australian wineries for many years, so it was important for us to continue that here."
A Modern Take on Italian Dining
Italian Street Kitchen offers a modern, accessible take on Italian dining, inspired by the energy of Italy's street culture. The menu combines Italian tradition with Australian creativity, showcasing the culinary expertise of executive chefs Giulio and Enrico Marchese, twins who grew up in Friuli, Northern Italy, surrounded by food.
"The authenticity comes from the recipes themselves," they said. "Many of the recipes come directly from their mother and grandmother."
Standout dishes include a tiramisu made using traditional Italian technique, a rich bolognese elevated with bone marrow pangrattato, and handmade eggplant caramelle ravioli, which has already become a signature favorite.
The Adelaide Spritz
The venue will also introduce a signature cocktail, the Adelaide Spritz, crafted using local Adelaide Hills aperitifs, citrus, and botanicals. This cocktail is set to become a favorite among locals and visitors alike, offering a fresh and distinctly South Australian twist.
"We’re heading on a regional trip next week to continue discovering more local producers to partner with," Howard said. "Part of that trip will include visiting the Adelaide Hills to taste local aperitifs, spirits, and vermouths that we hope will form the base of the cocktail. We’ll also be incorporating local citrus, which will be coming into season as we open, to give the drink a fresh and distinctly South Australian feel."
A Versatile Space
The interior design of the space aims to transition seamlessly from a long corporate lunch to a relaxed midweek dinner or a longer weekend session. The goal, according to Howard, is to create an atmosphere that feels both exciting and familiar.
A Fresh Energy
With its handmade pasta, South Australian wines, and locally inspired spritz, Italian Street Kitchen is poised to bring a fresh new energy to Adelaide's CBD dining scene this winter. The restaurant's opening marks a significant addition to the city's culinary landscape, offering a unique dining experience that combines tradition, innovation, and a deep appreciation for local produce and wine.
"We’re excited to bring Italian Street Kitchen into such a passionate and food-driven market," Howard concluded. "We believe it will become a beloved destination for locals and visitors alike."
